Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico and Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli. Get a sense of the local culture at Colosseum and Cupola di San Pietro. Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Viterbo (Viterbo Historic Centre & Palazzo dei Papi), Bau Beach (in Maccarese) and Tarquinia (Necropoli di Tarquinia, Museo Nazionale Tarquiniense, &more). Traveling from Venice in October, things will get little chillier in Bled: highs are around 60°F and lows about 43°F. On the 13th (Tue), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Ljubljana.
