Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Scuola Grande di San Rocco and Piazza San Marco. Museo Archeologico Nazionale and Natural History Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Venice side-trips: Ferrara (Centro Storico Ferrara, Ferrara Cathedral, &more), Verona (Piazza dei Signori, Basilica di Santa Anastasia, &more) and Mantua (Casa del Mercato, Camera degli Sposi, &more). There's much more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Church of San Pantalon, pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica di Aquileia, examine the collection at Doge's Palace, and don't miss a visit to Scala Contarini del Bovolo.
