The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Barrio Getsemani and Templo de Santo Domingo. Your inner history buff will appreciate Iglesia de la Trinidad and St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral. When in Cartagena, make a side trip to see Aviario Nacional de Colombia in Isla Baru, approximately Isla Baru away. The adventure continues: get some thrills on the water with a speed boat tour, pause for some photo ops at Monumento a Los Zapatos Viejos, don't miss a visit to Plaza de La Trinidad, and examine the collection at Casa Museo Rafael Nunez.
