In many ways the most modern of Italian cities, Milan is a busy, elegant metropolis with an impressive list of grand palaces, fine churches, and important museums.
On the 24th (Tue), admire the landmark architecture of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, then make a trip to Piazza del Duomo, and finally step into the grandiose world of Castello Sforzesco. Here are some ideas for day two: explore the world behind art at Pinacoteca di Brera, then explore the different monuments and memorials at Monumental Cemetery, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Il Cenacolo.

Florence to Milan is an approximately 2-hour train ride. You can also drive; or fly. In December, Milan is a bit cooler than Florence - with highs of 9°C and lows of 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Thu) to allow time to take a train to Venice.

On the 26th (Thu), contemplate the waterfront views at Canal Grande, then admire the landmark architecture of Basilica di San Marco, and then examine the collection at Doge's Palace.
