Colombia's heart and soul, Bogota has earned the nickname "Athens of South America" thanks to its abundance of universities, libraries, and lower-level schools.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Tue): take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Monserrate, examine the collection at Casa de Moneda - Coleccion Numismatica del Banco de la Republica, then explore the world behind art at Museo Botero del Banco de la Republica, then browse the collection at Luis Ángel Arango Library, and finally examine the collection at Gold Museum (Museo del Oro). On the 28th (Wed), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: tour the pleasant surroundings at Parque de Usaquen, then make a trip to Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santodomingo, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Salt Cathedral.

The coral San Andres Island boasts a rich colonial history, exotic beaches, and a laidback, tropical lifestyle.
On the 29th (Thu), head off the coast to Johnny Cay, pause for some serene contemplation at Primera Iglesia Bautista, and then kick back and relax at Playa de San Luis. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 30th (Fri): make a trip to Rocky Cay, look for all kinds of wild species at La Piscinita, and then make a trip to Blow Hole.

Getting from Bogota to San Andres Island by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Traveling from Bogota in September, things will get warmer in San Andres Island: highs are around 36°C and lows about 30°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 30th (Fri) early enough to catch the flight to Cartagena.

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Step out of Cartagena with an excursion to Playa Blanca in Isla Baru--about 52 minutes away. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Walled City of Cartagena, take in the spiritual surroundings of Convento La Popa de la Galera, get interesting insight from Boats4U, and appreciate the history behind Monumento a Los Zapatos Viejos.

You can fly from San Andres Island to Cartagena in 2 hours. Expect a daytime high around 37°C in October, and nighttime lows around 30°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Tue) early enough to take a bus to Santa Marta.
