Rose Garden (Rosengarten), Bern

#1 of 8 in Parks in Bern
Garden · Nature / Park
A public park since 1913, this site served as a cemetery in the 19th century. Today, the manicured lawns and formal gardens draw both visiting tourists and picnicking locals. In addition to roses, the neat flowerbeds display 30 different types of rhododendrons and 200 kinds of irises. Take a stroll along the footpaths to see the rose varieties named after Ingrid Bergman, Maria Callas, Christopher Columbus, and Cleopatra. Walk here from the Old Town, or take the public bus from the city's main train station. Start your trip to Bern by creating a personalized itinerary on Inspirock.

  • We were there in March and no roses to see and with Covid the cafe was only serving takeaways. I’m not a big flower lover but don’t worry about that just walk up here for the best view of Bern old.....  more »
  • I visited in the dead of winter and still a trip up to Rosegarten was worth it. I walked down past the Bear Park and up into the Rosegarten for the view. There is only one place to take it the old...  more »
  • Scenic, peaceful and a great view of the city from here.
  • Best place in town to get a nice view of the old city. You can easily walk there from all points. A restaurant is also available to have a beer or lunch. Public transport is also available in case you don’t want to walk up. Afterwards you can go visit the Bears at Bärengraben. Also good for a pick nick, bring your own wine or beers to enjoy the view or a nice sunset.
