Langholmen, Stockholm

#1 of 9 in Beaches in Stockholm County
Beach · Island
Favored by Stockholmers and visitors alike, Langholmen is a popular recreational spot that offers much needed respite from the big city bustle. In the past, this now lush retreat was rocky and barren and best known for its prison, which was turned into a popular hostel and museum in 1898--check in and you will find out what it is like to sleep in a prison cell. Several small sandy beaches provide opportunities for swimming and kayaking. The island is also home to one of the city's oldest shipyards and a small museum dedicated to Carl Michael Bellman, an important 18th-century Swedish musician and songwriter.
