Ride on a double-track railway through the underground tunnels of Postojna Cave and see colorful rock formations, as well as the 100 species that make the caves their home. One of the largest caves in the extensive karst plateau features 21 km (13 mi) of passages, galleries, and chambers illuminated by electric lighting. A historical train takes you to large halls adorned with chandelier-like stalactites and limestone "sculptures," such as "the brilliant," a shiny white limestone formation. Meet the olm, a salamander popularly called the dragon's offspring or the human fish. Archduke Ferdinand I was the first to officially visit the cave in 1819, but several writings on the cave walls date all the way back to the 13th century. Note that audioguides are available in a range of languages. You can plan Postojna trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

Postojna Cave Reviews
The tour was better than I remember from long ago, but times have changes.. We saw the little 6 proteus babies, beautiful. Not too touristy now, so you can take time and pictures as you like. more »
It is a must do in Slovenia. The combination of half train and half walk inside is the best combination. Nature at its best and it's jaw dropping to see the formations and the caves are one of the... more »
Truly remarkable place. I was very impressed about the whole experience, train ride, toured guide, amount of work put at that place to be proper tourist attraction and yet it remain true to its nature. I will definitely visit it again in future and maybe even explore it thoroughly next time (there is also a special tour for explorers).
Took our son here to ride the train through the cave just after Christmas. We ordered tickets online the day before and arrived a little bit late they changed our tickets to match the next tour with no issue. They have several different language options for the tour you just stand in line for the tour language option you want. You ride the train through the cave until you reach the stop and then you walk the rest of the way through. The tour guide will tell you all about the caves as you walk through. There is a gift shop at the end and a pretty snow globe with a model of the cave and train. I highly recommend this place for children and families.
