Built into a steep cliff above the lake, Bled Castle offers magnificent views of the small island on the lake, two nearby towns, and the surrounding mountains. German Emperor Henry II donated the castle buildings, arranged around two courtyards, to the bishop of Brixen in 1011. The castle features interesting historical exhibits and a small chapel. Visit the wine cellar and ask the monks to tell you stories about the castle and Slovenia's wine regions. On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Julian Alps from the castle's terraces. • The view from the castle on Lake Bled is wonderful but the price of the tickets to pay (€11.00) per person is exaggerated. The castle is used as an exhibition space. In Some places there are archaeological finds and nothing else (only commercial activities of souvenirs and local products).

  • This is one of my favorite castles in Europe, the best part is undoubtedly the view of Bled Island, the castle tour is also very good. The walk up to the castle is fairly steep but not that long compared to other castles. I have seen people go up by horse and cart. It's also worth knowing that there is a car park close to the castle grounds.
  • It's a wonderful castle which offers a magnificent view of Bled lake and surrounding areas. It's accessible by road as well as by foot. There's small trek from lake which would take you around 15-20 minutes to reach up to the castle. Castle has a museum, restaurant and a gift shop. Entry here isn't free but there's student discount.
