Basilique St. Anne, Brazzaville

#1 of 10 in Things to do in Republic of the Congo
Must see · Architectural Building · Tourist Spot
Admire the unusual design of Basilique St. Anne, a modern Catholic cathedral built using traditional construction methods and inspired by northern Congolese spearheading. The 1946 building features a pointed 83 m (272 ft) bell tower erected over a massive Latin cross base, while its facade resembles snake scales and shells. A series of 22 m (72 ft) tall red brick vaults let in light through the ceiling, and the green-tile roof made of glass blades complete this unique landmark. • This is a spacious church. We visited as the service was finishing and were surprised by a beautiful choir. It was nice to see how happy everyone seemed, moving at the rhythm of the music.  more »
