  It was many years since I'd visited the Buried Village and to be honest I was quite disappointed -not a lot had changed. I found the museum really interesting, we'd already been to Waimangu Valley.....  more »

  Only went to waterfall, SPECTACULAR as you look out the near-closest environment to what dinosaurs used to live in. Many ferns, and delicate small mosses and plants. Great place to stop and absorb history if you do go to the village. the underlying theme is that volcanoes rules, the land adapts and humans make a plan.

  We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children. We recently visited the buried village on a quiet Sunday afternoon, we had just missed a guided tour slot so took a map and proceeded the tour alone. The kids and adults enjoyed the treasure hunt. The highlight though has to be the waterfall walk. Well worth the steps up and down and for us was more interesting than the actually village. The cafe serves a delicious selection of food and drink.
