Built by the city's powerful patrician families in the age of feudalism, San Gimignano Bell Tower is a reminder of a once-ubiquitous architectural trend. Admire at the 14 different towers still in existence, the tallest of which stands 54 m (177 ft) high. At one point, 72 of these study stone structures accentuated the town's skyline. Climb more than 250 steps to the top of the Torre Grossa for views of the other towers and the Tuscan countryside.
