  • In front of Palazzo Torlonia, a public right of way is this sarcophagus used as a fountain. Probably of the 2nd-3rd century, in the Centre is depicted the face of the deceased, placed in the frame of a marine scene with Faun and maidens. Off the wall a mask does leak out a jet of water and the two lion paws holding the sarcophagus. As you read the plaque, this fountain was erected by the Torlonia Family, in 1842.
