Fontana del Tritone, Rome

#182 of 2,913 in Things to do in Rome
Stop for a photo op at Fontana del Tritone, a beautiful 17th-century fountain in the middle of Piazza Barberini. Don't forget to lower the camera and really get a good look at the statue in the middle: the muscular, larger-than-life character of Triton supported by dolphin fin tails and blowing on a conch shell. The dramatic attraction celebrates the restored Acqua Felice aqueduct and provides water from the source. Before you visit Rome, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

  • Another of Bernini's. Not as grand as some of the others, but pleasant enough to justify pausing to admire it for a few moments.  more »
  • Neptune themed fountain in a nice open piazza. Probably only worth visiting if in the area. Very close to Barberini Metro station which is also the closest to Trevi Fountain.  more »

  • Beautiful sight at night; not as majestic as the Trevi fountain, yet it has its own charm especially at night. Worth a visit if you are in staying at a hotel in close proximity. The charm lies in the fact that it was made from a single marble rock. I haven’t seen anything like it in the US.
  • Tritone is in a decent area, close to lots of shops. It's a bit touristy though, so prices are inflated a bit. Lots of other, better sites and neighborhoods but if you're there it is a beautiful fountain.
