The element that characterizes the Via Giulia is the arch Farnese realized at the beginning of the XVI century, the project was much broader, to think that the overall work was dedicated even the great Michelangelo Buonarroti, with a bridge you wanted to connect the buildings of Family Farnese of Trastevere and these in via Giulia. Of the Majestic project that was interrupted, remains in the street this beautiful testimony (it was to be the first arch of the bridge). Note This place together with the Fontana del Mascherone always in Via Giulia, is part of those painted by the great painter Ettore Roesler Franz in the series of "Rome Vanished", 120 watercolors of the size of about 50 x75, made between 1878 and 1896. The artist with these representations, wanted to save the image of places of ancient and popular Rome that were already disappearing at that time, thanks to him so we can have the idea of how the city still showed in the NINETEENTH century. This beautiful collection (now available 119 paintings) is present in the Museum of Rome in Trastevere.
