Trinità dei Monti, Rome

4.2
#49 of 525 in Historic Sites in Rome
Climb the historic Spanish steps to find yourself at Trinità dei Monti. Most famous for its position at the top of the steps that lead down to the Piazza di Spagna, this church offers you a panorama view of the surrounding area. Inside are paintings by Giambattista Naldini depicting the life of John the Baptist, including Baptism of Christ. You will also find a painting by Daniele da Volterra, a pupil of Michelangelo, called Assumption of the Virgin. Several frescoes and well-known canvases decorate the interior as well, along with an assortment of other paintings. Religious services are also still offered inside the church. • Two beautiful towers on top of the hill framing the church, built 1500’s. These twins became later inspirations to other modern buildings. The Spanish steps are right in front, b. 1775, spilling into plaza below. Bernini (father) fountain right on plaza, ties the them to an earlier Roman times (river steps).
  • The church is in such good memorable place, so I think many of the tourists forget to visit it. Better to go inside. Find some chill, when it's extremely hot in the street.
