I really like visiting UNESCO sites, and I loved the wine region...but I was quite nonplussed by this museum. Maybe I should have tried the restaurant and done some wine tasting too? more »

Grinzane Cavour castle is home to the internationally famous truffle auction sale. I took part in a wine tasting there and I have to say that it’s a very cozy place for that kind of activity. On the other side if you are looking for a good local wine for a reasonable price you’re probably in the wrong place since!

Well worth a visit if you're in the area. It's a medium-sized castle/tower on a hill, surrounded by stunning views. For 6 EUR you can walk around the castle museum which has a detailed history of wine-making in the region, with a focus on a 19th century local politician. There are videos, displays, a gift shop containing many local wines and produce, and a cafe/restaurant.
