Hazrat Nizamuddin Darga
Jostle through the shop-packed alleys until you reach Hazrat Nizamuddin Darga, a serene 700-year-old mausoleum of one of the world's most famous Sufi saints, Nizamuddin Auliya. Visited by thousands of Muslims every week, the complex also holds the tombs of poet Amir Khusrow, Nizamuddin's contemporary, and of a 17th-century Mughal princess, Jahanara Begum Sahib. Observe worshippers pray to Mezar, listen to centuries-old qawwali (devotional music), and admire the intricate stone lattice and Farsi inscriptions. In the evening, candles illuminate the dargah. After your visit, explore the many good eateries in the area--but be aware of pickpockets. A beautiful Sufi shrine visiting which brings peace to the heart. One has to enter through crowded lanes but once inside the main shrine area everything is open and very clean. Entry of women is allowed upto the main gate of the shrine, both men and women have to dress modestly and make use of some sort of headgear such as a scarf and cap. Within the main shrine there is a medieval wooden roof with calligraphy engraved with mother of pearl. Decorations in the rest of the area is very intricate and ornate. Best time to visit would be early morning to avoid the throng of visitors this shrine gets every day.
