  • Very large dam. Free entry and there is a boat ride but the line was long so we didn't try it. There is a bridge that overlook the dam. Nice view.  more »

  • Mattupetty Dam, near Munnar in Idukki District, is a storage Concrete Gravity dam built in the mountains of Kerala, India to conserve water for hydroelectricity. It has been a vital source of power yielding along with other such dams, huge revenue to the states. The large amount of perennially available water allows wild animals and birds to flourish. However salinity caused by irrigation and water-logging are of concern to environmentalists.
  • Mattupetty dam isn't as big as idukki dam, but it is still very impressive. I saw it after monsoon rains when the water level was very high. The height difference between both sides of the dam was astonishing. It's hard to believe 85m of water is few feet away from you, held together by a narrow band of concrete. Come here in the evening to enjoy golden sunlight set against trees and water.
