Run a gauntlet between countless giant stone pillars and marvel at their elaborately carvings at Aayiram Kaal Mandapam, a great hall belonging to the Meenakshi Amman Temple complex. With a total of 985 columns, this great hallway earned the title of the Hall of One Thousand Pillars. Built in 1579, this mandapa, or pillared outdoor hall, features exquisite columns with images of fantastic creatures, deities and demons from rich Indo-Chinese tradition, with each pillar displaying a unique unrepeated carving.     This is part of the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple and has some very beautiful sculptures. Although not quite a thousand pillars, it a large number of exquisitely carved pillars. Too bad you cannot.....  more »

    Best temple. Very neatly maintained. Crowded many times due to its historic value. Has electric shuttle facilities for handicapped and old people. Snacks are available. Toilet facilities. Everything is good .

    With all modern equipments and technology I wonder even now we cannot build one like that, the beauty of the place tells you how great it is and how unique they are. For art and love for historic places people will love this place.
