Religious Site · Tourist Spot
See one of the few historic temples devoted to the Sun god, Suriyanar, and the only temple in Tamil Nadu with shrines for all the planetary deities at Suriyanar Koil. Observe the Dravidian architecture of the Vijayanagar period, all the way from the 11th century, as well as the masonry of a five-storey gopura tower and the granite wall enclosing all the shrines of the temple. Participate in the service with worship being held with pipe and percussion instruments, religious instructions read by priests, and prostration by devotees in front of the temple mast. Light a set of lamps to show reverence and obtain good luck. By using our Kumbakonam trip itinerary planning website, you can arrange your visit to Suriyanar Koil and other attractions in Kumbakonam.

  • Temple is very good. Please be careful about the brokers in the temple. Please purchase darshan tickets only in the temple counter. Entertaining brokers will spoil all your efforts to reach the temple.
  • Wonderful temple. We can see all navagraham(stars) here. Sun is a main god here. Yet constructive work is going for renovating temple.
