A cluster of ancient ruins of great architectural and historical significance, Acropolis of Athens has been the star attraction of Athens for many centuries and is a World Heritage Site. Sitting on a rocky hill just above the city, this age-old citadel contains ruins of temples constructed during the 5th century BCE. The "City on a Hill," as its name roughly translates, contains outstanding examples of Classical architecture that continues to influence the building styles of modern cities around the world. Although pollution and exposure to weather continue to take their toll on the ancient buildings, the historical hill remains an important reminder of the cultural influence and political power ancient Greece once exercised on the rest of the world. It is truly a spectacular site to see ancient remnants of once magnificent temples. To consider what it would have taken to make them in those times is hard to fathom. The views are also spectacular..... more »
Amazing experience. We climbed up the hill and got to see spectacular views of the city. There were two amphitheatres that were very pretty before reaching the top. Once you reach the Parthenon it is absolutely breath taking. You literally cannot visit Athens without seeing it. An absolute must to go here.
A super nice place and you can feel the ancient history in there totally! You should pay €10 for the entrance and it's better to go on week days as it is less crowded. It is better you read a bit about this historical place and then go there to enjoy more!
