Get a close look at the impressive Late Baroque architecture and intricate detailing of Asamkirche. The tiny church was constructed as a private chapel in the mid-18th century. It features a beautiful main sanctuary of floor-to-ceiling frescoes and ornate Baroque decor. Note the magnificent wax statue of St. Johann Nepomuk in the pillar-enclosed high altar. Look up to see "Life of Saint Neopmuk," the ceiling fresco by Cosmas Daminan Asam. Next door to the church, you can stop by the Asam House to see its South German rococo stucco exterior and ornamentation. The Asam brothers acquired it in 1733. I went for participation in Mass, so I was not a tourist at that time, but it is beautiful to see. This church is very small. It has beautiful acoustics and the mass in Germany is still styled in the way of the German composers. The music suits the environment (at least at the mass we went to). If you go, please consider giving a donation, these churches need preservation from their age.

It's a really understated church, which is surprising considering its decor but unsurprising considering you walk up, look through bars at it, and leave. I insisted on coming here because I love Baroque architecture and while there's little to do, there's plenty to see. It almost felt surreal, it was so grand. The only way to get a decent look at anything is to zoom in on your camera, so bring your binoculars if you're interested in being mindblown for 5 solid minutes. I wish it was more inviting to visitors, but I understand why it's not. For anyone not interested in architecture or the baroque art style, I'm sure it would be a meh experience. For me, I loved every second of it.
