The Galerie Neue Meister in Dresden, Germany, displays around 300 paintings from the 19th century until today, including works from Otto Dix, Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet. The gallery also exhibits a number of sculptures from the Dresden Sculpture Collection from the same period. The museum's collection grew out of the Old Masters Gallery, for which contemporary works were increasingly purchased after 1843.With our international travel planner, Dresden attractions like Gemaldegalerie Neue Meister can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.
The New Masters Gallery is part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen (State Art Collections) of Dresden. It is located in the Albertinum.
The collection began as part of the Dresden Painting Gallery. The purchase of contemporary works, creating the "Modern Department", was stepped up in 1843 under Bernhard von Lindenau, director of the Royal Museums, who personally donated 700 talers each year for this purpose. The Academic Council, responsible for the gallery and the Academy of Fine Arts, also contributed 50 percent of the proceeds from its exhibitions towards new purchases. However, these funds were only enough for limited acquisitions, mostly restricted to German works.
Gemaldegalerie Neue Meister Reviews
Unlike in the Old Master's Gallery in the Zwinger the staff here is friendly. As there are a lot less visitors you have plenty of space to see the paintings. EUR 10.- entrance fee is steep, however..... more »

+ - .. The gallery of new masters in Dresden gained its fame due to the extensive collection of works of the romanticera, 20th century art and contemporary artists... A distinctive feature of the collection is the fact that the Dresden Collection of the New Age begins with the works of Caspar David Friedrich, the chief representative of German romanticism, on the kink of the 18th and 19th centuries. In chronological order, the museum presents other artists of this era: Carl Gustav Karus, Johan Christian Dahl, Ludwig Richter. They are followed by French and German Impressionists Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Max Lieberman, Max Slefogt; Expressionists, including Otto Dix and the artists of the Bridge (art group): Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Karl Schmidt-Rotluf, as well as representatives of dresden Secession - Bernhard Krechmar, Karl Loze. etc.
The purpose of visiting the gallery was not set for itself, as they wanted to see only the Gallery of Old Masters (as they say, a matter of taste). Therefore, I can't say anything about what is inside, but it certainly did not affect the assessment. I would like to say only enthusiastic words about the facade of the building: a very beautiful structure. The old city of Dresden was just through it, so this is the first and brightest experience!
