Originally opened in 1895, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church today stands as a memorial to the destruction of World War II. This historic chapel was damaged--then almost completely eliminated--by bombings in 1943 and 1945. The remaining Romanesque architecture is in the steeple, which no longer has a pointed roof. The ground floor's memorial hall honors war victims. The people of Berlin preserved the ruins within the monument to represent the rebirth and resilience of postwar Berlin. During Xmas time they set up a Christmas Market right in front of the church. And it is one of the best in Berlin. You can find all the traditional delicacies you are looking for.

This is a beautiful and significant location in Berlin, clearly displaying the destruction of war for all viewers to witness and remember. Inside the old church there is an exhibit about the history of the church and the creation of the churches to either side of the old church. The remaining artwork- mosaics and sculptures- that are in the new and the old structures are impressive and beautiful. Definitely worth a visit.
