Trinity Abbey (Abbey de la Trinite) is best known as the first producer of Bénédictine, an herbal liqueur. Founded in the 11th century by the Duke of Normandy, the abbey was built using the distinct cream-colored stone of Caen. In the scriptorium, see the illuminated manuscripts the monks produced under the Plantagenet. Two Norman rulers from the 11th century were originally buried outside and later interred in the Gothic abbey church. You can still view their burial plots in the northern chapel. • What a fantastic building it is endless with a new discovery at every turn. A truly ancient and historical building. There is renovation work in progress but in a way it added to the feel of the building. It is immense and one could spend hours wandering around it. Well worth a visit.
