Dominica Botanic Gardens, Roseau

#3 of 7 in Parks in Roseau
Garden · Nature / Park
Hailed as one of the best botanical gardens in the the Caribbean region, Dominica Botanic Gardens was built in 1890 and featured flora from around the world from the outset. Misfortune befell the gardens during Hurricane David in 1979, when the storm wreaked havoc and pulled down several old trees. Look for the huge African baobab tree, which fell and crushed a school bus during the storm. Flora in the gardens includes exotic plants like the bois kwaib, Dominica's national tree and flower, as well as some wildlife, such as lizards and hummingbirds. Check the calendar before you go to see if any cricket matches, parades, or music festivals will take place during your visit. • Great ambiance.. fresh air.. good for weddings an picnic.
  • Non signs telling what trees, flowers and plants you looked at. Some cool trees though and the rain forest is always impressive.
