The square surrounding Prague Astronomical Clock is one of the most crowded spots in all of Prague, attracting tourists eager to synchronize their watches with one of the world's oldest timepieces. The town hall, founded here in the 1330s, houses the old town's main tourist office and has art exhibits on its first two floors. You can take a guided tour of the building to see its council chamber and assembly room, noted for containing exquisite mosaics from the 1930s. Be sure to climb the building's Gothic tower to see the inner workings of the famous astronomical clock, considered one of medieval Europe's major technical achievements. The clock's decorative figures put on a lively show on the hour, so time your visit if possible. You can plan Prague trip in no time by asking Inspirock to help create your itinerary.

Prague Astronomical Clock reviews

7th of October 2021. Basically, it's a medieval clock in the old town hall (a replica of the old clock after building the new after the WWII). Every hour the clock beats and the statues of the 12... more »
This old and interesting building is well preserved and well presented. The actual movement of the chime is quaint but not that exciting to be honest despite the large crowds that form on the hour each time. A visit inside is definitely worth it though to experience the beautifully designed and constructed elevator and staircase to the top of the viewing tower. The 360° view is perfect for seeing the density and shape of the city, especially the extremely large number of spires!

Highly recommend the included tour (separate registration at the desk required) through the Chapel, Chambers, and underground - lots of great historical context, densely packed. Our guide Peter spoke an impressive four languages. Note that your tickets each allow two entries to the tower, valid over a three-day period. So both the daytime and nighttime panoramic views!
