Visit the historic Puente de Boyaca, a bridge that pinpoints the location of the legendary Battle of Boyaca. Situated in a lush green valley, the bridge is surrounded by monuments dedicated to the famous battle that was won by the forces of Simon Bolivar and granted independence to Colombia. Cross the Teatinos River via the small bridge, which was actually built a century before the iconic battle took place there. Nearby you can view the other monuments, such as the Von Miller sculpture dedicated to Bolivar, the statue of General Francisco de Paula Santander, or the perpetually burning Liberty Fire. • Puente de Boyacá is one of those historical places you can't miss if you're visiting the region and know a bit about Colombian history, given its importance and meaning in the independence of the country. However, if your interest just lies in sightseeing, you might be in for a bit of a disappointment, since the bridge itself is small and the site lacks any other significant landmarks or structures. This doesn't take anything away anything from the beauty of the landscape, but makes it a place with just a few views to enjoy. The best time for a visit would be during the Christmas season during the evening, as the site is decorated with lots of beautiful lights, shapes, and even colored sprinklers. Also, don't forget your jacket, as the typically windy evenings will make you feel quite cold.
  • It is a wonderful place which gets you closer to an important event of Colombian history as it is our freedom. It is a sorry that they had already dismantled the christmas light that should have given a special atmosphere to this place. The firs bridge was made of wood. In the first centenary it was rebuild as we can see it now. There is a huge rock sculpture in honor to those foreign soldiers who participated in this campaign.Something that was very particular is that there was torch that was supposed to lit forever but it was off. When you come out you have to go up to the first turn , to take the route to Bogotá and you'll see on your right a sculpture to honor the libertador Simon Bolivar.
