The S.S. Atlantic Heritage Park was developed by volunteers in order to restore the two burial sites and monuments and also to preserve the history of the S.S. Atlantic shipwreck. The monument in the park was erected in 1915 by the owner of the White Star Line in order to commemorate the 277 unidentified victims that were buried in there.

Inside the Interpretation Centre building there is a museum and craft shop. The museum holds many artifacts recovered from the S.S. Atlantic shipwreck as well as artifacts related to the history of Terence Bay and the Nova Scotia tartan. The craft shop features local craft makers from all around Nova Scotia and serves refreshments as well as snacks.

  • there when the centre was not open. the trail was good and the monument easy to find. Looking down on the rocks on a sunny day made the story of that day of tragedy all the more sad with the wintery.....  more

  • Beautiful park...I learned quite a bit about this forgotten shipwreck that occurred on the first of April, 1873.
  • A little gem of a museum and memorial site. Beautiful views from the sea shore. Fascinating and well presented artifacts from the wreck. Historic graveyard. Friendly and knowledgeable staff will even make you a cup of tea. Gift shop with locally made crafts. This is just a few miles off the main road to Peggys Cove and well worth the side trip. No crowds!
