Trip Planner: South America / Brazil / State of Rio de Janeiro / Rio de Janeiro / Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro
Noted for its collection of over 6,500 plants from all over the globe, historic Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro also houses Brazil’s largest botanical library. Distributed over an area of 54 hectares (133 acres) and utilizing several large greenhouses, the garden’s collection shelters many endangered and threatened species. The site also includes an important research center and an impressive collection of some of Brazil’s rarest plants. Located at the foot of the Corcovado Mountain, right below the right arm of the Christ the Redeemer statue, the garden is one of UNESCO’s protected biosphere reserves. Stop by to see over 140 species of bids, many of which have become accustomed to humans and are much easier to observe than in the wild. Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro reviews
Very nice gardens but much of it closed or being worked on. The palm tree lined ways were beautiful. Big park take golf cart rides if not up to long walks

I live in Rio de Janeiro and am fortunate enough to be able to walk in the botanical garden whenever I want. It is an extraordinary, not-to-be missed experience, to wander along in the humid air...

Absolutely beautiful 200+ year old garden! We went spontaneous and saw a lot but you could easily spend a day here. The App cleverly has guided tours organized by the interest of your choice with estimated times to help you make the best of it. It's a great value for those who enjoy nature or are just looking for a relaxing tour option.
A definite must go when you're visiting Rio de Janeiro. Beautiful gardens, lots and lots of different and new trees and each of them have the detailed name and origin written. Many special areas such as Japanese garden, cactus area, medicinal plants etc. Also they have drinking fountain with pure clean water. I Really liked my visit.
