See the first steam train to run in the country, learn about the development of the piano, and explore large-scale exhibits featuring a steel-melting crucible, carriages, planes, and helicopters at Technisches Museum Wien. Opened in 1918, the museum has a large collection of technology and interactive displays in permanent exhibitions, including those about nature, heavy industry, energy, everyday life, communications, musical instruments, transport, and research. Explanations are provided in German and English, and the museum is wheelchair accessible. Take a break to enjoy a snack at the cafe on site, and be sure to check the website for information about which areas are under renovation prior to your visit. Every exhibit was very well explained and there are many experiments you could perform (they're preset). Some exhibits are also compared side to side to be able to roughly see how the exhibit evolved from it's origins to how it's made now. The exhibitions are very organized and good for kids.
Wonderful place to spend a day at. The museum is full of interactive exhibits that kids love. It also has a few plays area upstairs for kids to have fun. We couldn't leave the kids wanted to stay longer. Maybe a good idea to bring a lunch and just eat it at the rest area (they have a cafe, but we didn't try it)
