Trip Planner: South Pacific / Australia / New South Wales / Sydney / Pylon Lookout at Sydney Harbour Bridge
From the top of the southeast pylon on Sydney Harbour Bridge--87 m (285 ft) above sea level--you have panoramic views of Sydney, the Opera House, and the bridge itself. As you climb the 200 stairs, learn about the bridge’s construction and the workers who built it from informational plaques, exhibitions, and old footage spread over several levels inside the pylon. Interestingly, while providing some support, Pylon Lookout at Sydney Harbour Bridge, with its granite façade, is mostly decorative. Pylon Lookout at Sydney Harbour Bridge reviews
Received a complimentary entry to this lookout when I did the sydney Bridge climb. The views from the top were great. There's also a small exhibition about the bridge in there. Recommended to visit. more »
Our research suggested that doing this lookout would be better than the large time commitment of the bridge climb. I am happy with our decision. The views were awesome, high enough and it was not... more »
I took my mum to the pylon lookout a few years ago as she has trouble with heights and the bridge climb was not an option to get great views of the city. So we decided to try the Pylon Lookout after friends recommend it. My mum was blown away with the beautiful 360 view of the city and the harbour from the pylon. It was a great alternative and I loved it too. Whenever I have relatives visiting I bring them to the pylon lookout for the amazing views. For $19 to get up to the pylons for the view it is worth it.
Great display to learn a lot about the bridge and of course take in the amazing view. Lower parts of the museum were free but to see the upper parts of the museum and go outside to the viewing platform there is a charge. Although I had a free voucher for the Lookout because I did the Harbour Bridge Climb first. I highly recommend the museum if you're interested in the bridge, or just want to take some photos from the Lookout. It's also a good alternative if you don't want to pay for the full bridge climb experience.
