Palacio Barolo, Buenos Aires

#8 of 101 in Historic Sites in Buenos Aires
Historic Site · Hidden Gem · Architectural Building
Survey the streets of Buenos Aires from a lighthouse atop Palacio Barolo, a 22-storey building designed by Italian architect Mario Palanti. The landmark, which at the time of its construction in 1923 was the tallest in the city, now houses shops, offices, and studios. Constructed in tribute to Dante's "Divine Comedy," the building features a concrete facade and three distinct sections representing heaven, purgatory, and hell (we assume the offices are in the "hell" section). Climb to the top of the iconic palace to enjoy dramatic views over the city. • Designed to retell Dantes story. Admire the almost Harry Potterish style. Inside only the ground floor foyer was open, the lifts and terrace were closed (March 2020). The staff were not helpful - I...  more »
  • Quite a story of Italian Diligence, bringing to new generations the imponderable mysteries of The Divine Comedy. More a monument than a palace. Good tour is discounted for Argentinian student or senior with ID.
  • Great views, interesting background, but nothing you can't get from Wikipedia. The tour is a bit overpriced for basically, a great view, an office view from the 20s, and going up to the claustrophobic light tower, with a free lemonade at the end. Time would be better spent in a park. The prices were also just recently introduced. The pictures contain pretty much everything you'll see.
