Quarter Of Gorica, Berat

Landmark · Tourist Spot
Rising up from the banks of the Osum River, Quarter Of Gorica begs to be explored on foot. The ancient quarter is a small grouping of old homes and buildings on the side of hill. They are notable for their half-whitewashed stone walls and many windows facing the river. Two churches in the area are worth exploring, but they must be unlocked, so if you don't find the keeper at the first church you visit, move on to the next, where he is most likely unlocking the door for other guests. Cross the Gorice Bridge to reach the area. Near the bridge you'll find restaurants with inexpensive traditional food served in generous portions. A steep hike uphill leads you to the fortress near the top of the hill overlooking this section of town. There is a fee to enter the fortress.
